AUSTRALIA: SA lifts restrictions on QLD/NT travellers

South Australia will lift all restrictions on people travelling from Katherine in the Northern Territory, and the 11 LGAs in South East Queensland. People arriving from those regions had been required to undertake COVID tests and self-isolate until returning a negative result. From today (Tuesday, 31 August 2021) there will be no requirement for testing.

NEW ZEALAND: Auckland lockdown extended

New Zealand is extending alert level 4 restrictions in Auckland for at least another two weeks but lowering the alert level for other parts of the country. The number of new coronavirus cases in New Zealand reported today (Monday, 30 August 2021) fell significantly for the first time since the outbreak was detected nearly two weeks ago. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said that New Zealand south of Auckland would move to alert level 3 on Tuesday, 31 August 2021, with Northland expected to join them at level 3 on Thursday, 02 September 2021.

Travel update for NZ's Covid-19 lockdown

The New Zealand Government announcement last night that all of New Zealand, south of the Auckland border will move to Alert Level 3 from 11.59pm, 31 August. Auckland will remain at Alert Level 4 for a further 2 weeks and Northland will remain at Alert Level 4 until at least 11.59pm, 2 September 2021.

In a 1:00pm press conference, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced that all regions below the Auckland boundary would move to a lower alert level – alert level 3 – on August 31.

AUSTRALIA: QLD pauses hotel quarantine for two weeks

Premier Palaszczuk has announced QLD's hotel quarantine system is at capacity and from noon on Wednesday, 25 August 2021, hotel quarantine arrivals would be paused for two weeks. People with compassionate exemptions and medical exemptions are not included in this, but people who are relocating from other states will need to wait. No one currently in a declared hotspot will be permitted to enter QLD’s hotel quarantine for two weeks, except for those with exemptions such as compassionate reasons. New arrivals and QLD residents will have to reapply for a border pass.

AUSTRALIA/NEW ZEALAND: WA amends border restrictions with QLD, SA, NZ

Western Australia is easing border controls with South Australia — it's being reclassified from low risk to very low risk, meaning no quarantine is required. The hard border with Queensland is coming down, it's being reclassified from medium to low risk. There are still some restrictions in place. A hard border is being put up with New Zealand due to the outbreak there, and it is now designated medium risk.

WA Premier Mark McGowan has announced that NSW will be moved to its highest border control classification from Thursday, 26 August 2021. This gives people wanting to return to WA from NSW until then to be able to do it, provided they have a negative test and at least one vaccine dose.

NZ PM Jacinda Ardern has confirmed that the country's nationwide COVID lockdown until at least midnight on Friday, 27 August 2021. It comes after the country recorded 35 new cases in the last day, bringing the total of this current outbreak to 107. Auckland will remain in lockdown until at least Tuesday, 31 August 2021 - that's where the outbreak began.

AUSTRALIA: Curfews introduced for NSW LGAs

The NSW Government has announced a curfew will be put in place in the parts of Sydney most affected by COVID-19. The curfew comes into force as 12:01am on Monday, 23 August 2021, and will apply between 9:00pm and 5:00am. The new rules apply to the Local Government Areas of Bayside, Blacktown, Burwood, Campbelltown, Canterbury-Bankstown, Cumberland, Fairfield, Georges River, Liverpool, Parramatta, Strathfield, and some suburbs of Penrith. Mask wearing will apply across the state from August 30. Unless you are exercising, everyone must wear a mask outdoors across the state.

New Zealand was listed as a "low risk" site at 12:00pm on Wednesday, 19 August 2021. Anyone who has entered WA from New Zealand is subject to the following strict conditions. They must present for a COVID-19 test on arrival (within 48 hours) and on day 12, self-quarantine for 14 days in a suitable premises, complete a G2G Pass declaration prior to arrival, stipulating they do not have any COVID-19 symptoms and which jurisdictions they have been in during the previous 14 days, and arrivals are to be met at the border checkpoint for a health screening and to have their G2G Pass declaration checked before proceeding to their self-quarantine premises.

Tasmania will declare Greater Darwin and Katherine as high risk level 2 from 4.00pm on Monday, 16 August 2021. This means anyone who has spent time in the Greater Darwin and Katherine regions will not be permitted to enter Tasmania unless approved as an Essential Traveller and if approved, they will need to quarantine at a suitable premises for 14 days.
