WESTJET: Airline announces rapid COVID-19 testing trial for arrivals to Calgary from 2 November

The airline have announced that starting from 2 November, both residents of Canada’s Alberta and eligible international travellers arriving on a non-stop flight to Calgary, will be able to take a rapid COVID-19 test to reduce their quarantine requirement to as little as two days with a negative result. The pilot is part of plans by the Canadian government which it hopes to roll out on a national level in the near future.

HAWAIIAN AIRLINES: Airline to return to full U.S. mainland schedule from December 2020

The airline has announced that from December it will return to its full 13-city mainland U.S. network, included reinstating east coast services to Boston and New York (JFK). AMAWATERWAYS: Cruise operator suspends all remaining 2020 river sailings in three continents

The cruise operator has announced that it has cancelled the rest of its scheduled 2020 river cruises in Europe, Asia and Africa; this suspension does not though apply to the chartered river cruises being operated on the Rhine in partnership with a German tour operator. Passengers affected will be offered a future cruise credit equal to 115% of the value of their purchase, which will be valid for sailings through to the end of 2022.

CANADA: Country confirms extension of land border closure with U.S. until at least 21 November 2020

The government of Canada has confirmed that the US-Canada land border closure has once again been extended for a seventh time, for at least another 30 days until 21 November. The extension means the land border will remain closed for all non-essential traffic, including US tourists wanting to enter Canada. Separately, Canada also previously announced 8 October that it would shortly re-open to selected international travellers arriving by air.

SOUTH AFRICA: Country publishes updated list of countries designated 'high-risk'

The government of South Africa has today, 19 October, issued a revised list of countries designated as 'high-risk' for the purposes of international travel. As a reminder, international travel for business and leisure purposes resumed on 1 October 2020 in South Africa with restrictions in place; travel is currently restricted from countries with infection rates deemed to be high, and travel for leisure purposes from 'high-risk' countries is not permitted. Only high skill visa holders, investors in the economy and diplomats are allowed entry into South Africa from 'high-risk' countries with the necessary approvals in place.

SINGAPORE AIRLINES: Updated flight schedules published for October, November and December 2020

The airline, along with partner carrier SilkAir, has published its latest schedule update for flights in October, November and December 2020. Among the updates are reinstated flights to destinations including Brunei, Fukuoka, Kathmandu and Male. The airlines have said that following these resumptions, by the end of December flight capacity will have reached 15% of pre-COVID-19 levels.

SEYCHELLES: Country's government updates list of countries from which entry is permitted

South Africans and citizens of nine other African countries will be able to visit Seychelles as tourists from today, 19 October, according to the latest official Seychelles Travel tourism travel advisory published on 16 October. The list of category one countries has been updated to include Botswana, Burundi, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Niger, Rwanda, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. Category one permitted countries are considered low and medium risk.

CURACAO: Caribbean nation to re-open borders to some U.S. states from November 2020

The country's government has announced that it will open its borders to residents of the U.S. stated of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut from November, with more states to follow soon. Initially, all incoming visitors must present proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test result obtained a maximum of 72 hours of traveling, and upload their results to the new Digital Immigration Card within 48 hours prior to travel. In addition, residents of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut must present a valid state-issued ID as proof of residence.

AMERICAN AIRLINES: Airline begins new direct flights to Florida's Key West

The U.S. airline has announced and already commenced, as part of its Autumn schedule, a new nonstop service to Florida's Key West from its operating hubs in Charlotte, North Carolina and Dallas Forth-Worth. The new flights, which started on 8 October, feature 76-seat regional jets from Charlotte and 128-seat Airbus 319s from Dallas.

The airline has announced a partnership with 'Vault Health' which will allow them offer passengers travelling to Hawaii from the U.S. mainland a mail-in home COVID-19 saliva test. The test is to be performed using saliva collected during a Zoom-enabled video supervised test visit with a supervisor, and is claimed to be fast and efficient, allowing passengers to adhere to the 72 hour eligible testing window prior to departure.

CANADA: Country's government says border restrictions with the U.S. will be in place for some time

The country’s government has said that border restrictions on non-essential travel with the U.S., which have most recently rolled over until at least 21 October, will remain in place for some time to come, until the COVID-19 pandemic in both nations is much less serious. OMAN AIR: Airline introduces complimentary COVID-19 insurance from 1 October 2020

The airline has become the latest to offer complimentary COVID-19 cover for their passengers' medical and quarantine related expenses. The policy is available to all passengers with tickets issued from 1 October onwards and provides 24/7 COVID-19 assistance, COVID-19 emergency medical assistance up to 120,000 EUROS, quarantine accommodation costs up to 100 EURO per day, and repatriation costs.
