SOUTH AFRICA: South Africa moves to adjusted alert level three

South Africa will move to adjusted alert level three with immediate effect. All COVID-19 health and safety protocols must be followed, including observance of guidelines for social distancing, sanitation, hygiene and use of appropriate personal protective equipment, like cloth face masks. The following measures will be implemented - A curfew will be in place between 10h00 pm and 04h00 am. Should your travel to/from an airport fall outside of curfew hours, you will need to produce your ticket or travel itinerary to show your reason for travel. Inter-provincial travel will resume. All gatherings are permitted however only a minimum of 50 people indoors and 100 people outdoors will be allowed. Smaller venues are only permitted to operate at 50% capacity. Non-essential establishments such as restaurants, taverns, bars and fitness centers may open however will need to close by 21h00 pm in light of curfew. The sale of alcohol at retail outlets for off-site consumption is only permitted Monday to Thursday, between 10h00 am and 18h00 pm. The sale of alcohol for on-site consumption is permitted as per licensing conditions and up to 20h00pm. Schools will re-open on 26 July 2021 according to strict health protocols.

The NZ Government has suspended quarantine-free travel from Australia to New Zealand from 11.59 pm (NZT), Friday 23 July. The suspension will continue for a further 8 weeks and will be reviewed in September. For 7 days from 11.59 pm (NZ) Friday 23 July, eligible travellers will be able to return to New Zealand.

AUSTRALIA: QLD closes border to NSW and extends make mandate

QLD will close its border to NSW from 01.00am on Friday, 23 July 2021. NSW will remain a declared hotspot for four weeks, with a possible earlier review pending the outcome of their current outbreak. NSW/QLD border zone residents can only enter the state for essential reasons. This includes: Healthcare, work, education, essential shopping and caring for vulnerable people. QLD residents will be able to travel into the NSW border zone for similar reasons, but not further than the border zone. QLD residents can return from non-border zone locations in NSW, but will need to complete 14 days in hotel quarantine. Face mask restrictions will continue to apply for South East Queensland until Friday, 30 July 2021. This includes anyone who has been to the impacted areas in South East Queensland in the last 14 days. Other restrictions have been eased.

The NT has declared a COVID hotspot for Mildura Rural City, effective from 4.00pm on Monday, 19 July 2021. AUSTRALIA: SA imposes stricter border on Mildura, Wentworth and Broken Hill

SA has limited the movements of cross-border community members after the confirmation of a case of COVID-19 in Mildura, in north-west Victoria. From midnight on Monday, 19 July 2021, the Victorian cross-border bubble has been reduced from 70 kilometres to 40km, with residents only allowed into SA for work, study, care, essential shopping or getting a COVID-19 vaccine. They must get regularly tested for COVID-19 and wear face masks in public. Anyone in SA who has been in Mildura since July 11 has been ordered into 14 days' quarantine.

Anyone intending to travel to Tasmania after 12:01am Sunday, 18 July 2021 who has been in NSW, will not be able to enter Tasmania unless approved as an essential traveller. Quarantine and other requirements are in place for essential travellers. Tasmanian residents, who have a suitable premises to undertake 14 days quarantine, can apply to enter Tasmania as an essential traveller. If you don’t have a suitable residence, you will be required to quarantine in Government-designated quarantine – fees may apply.

AUSTRALIA: Tighter lockdown restrictions announced for NSW

The NSW Government has announced that from 11.59pm on Saturday, 17 July 2021, people who live in the local government areas of Fairfield, Canterbury-Bankstown and Liverpool will not be allowed to leave those areas for work. There are several other major changes being made to the lockdowns affecting Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong and Shellharbour. From 11.59pm on Saturday, 17 July 2021, many retail businesses will be forced to close - although, they will still be able to operate "click and collect", takeaway and delivery services. From 12.01am on Monday, July 19 2021, all construction will be paused and non-urgent maintenance, including cleaning services and repair work on residential premises will be paused.

From midnight on Thursday, 15 July 2021, travellers arriving in the state from Melbourne, Geelong and Bacchus Marsh will need to quarantine for two weeks. Anyone coming from other parts of the VIC will need to undergo testing on days one, five and 13, but will not have to isolate once they get their first test result. Plans to lift border restrictions with South East Queensland have been cancelled, but testing requirements will be lifted for people coming from Townsville and Birdsville.
