          STOBART AIR: Regional short-haul airline ceases trading in Ireland

          Regional short-haul airline Stobart Air, which operated a number of flight services on behalf of Aer Lingus, has ceased trading and is in the process of appointing a liquidator. The Dublin-based airline connected a range of UK airports with points in Ireland across 12 routes; all have now been cancelled. Aer Lingus is now communicating with customers and trade partners to advise them of their options for refund or re-booking.

          EMIRATES: Airline to launch two new France flight routes from July 2021

          The Dubai-based airline has announced that it will will resume flights to Nice from 2 July and Lyon 9 July, initially offering four flights per week to each French city; the move is in line with France easing its COVID-19 entry requirements for visitors. The lifting of entry restrictions will enable travellers based in the UAE to visit France without the need for quarantine.

          ETIHAD: Airline reportedly confirms that it will not resume flight services to Los Angeles

          The Abu Dhabi-based airline has reportedly dropped its flight route to Los Angeles permanently from its online route map; Etihad's decision not to resume Los Angeles flights as the COVID-19 pandemic begins to winds down leaves the airline with just three U.S. destinations - New York JFK, Washington Dulles and Chicago O'Hare. Prior to the pandemic, Etihad operated flights to Los Angeles five times per week, but the route has been suspended since March 2020.

          SINGAPORE AIRLINES: Airline confirms resumption of non-stop Manchester flights from 17 July 2021

          The airline has confirmed the return of its non-stop Manchester route from 17 July; initially, the flight will operate three times weekly to and from Singapore, with an A350-900 aircraft - but it is hoped that in time this can gradually increase, and also include the return of the westbound transatlantic connection to Houston, USA.

          BRITISH AIRWAYS: Airline to trial IATA Travel Pass on flights from London Heathrow Airport

          The airline has confirmed that it will begin trialling the IATA Travel Pass on flights from London Heathrow to Geneva and Zurich in Switzerland in the coming week; the app can be downloaded onto a mobile device directly from the app store. Once downloaded, customers will create a secure account and will be presented with the entry requirements for their destination. British Airways’ customers can then book a COVID-19 test with an approved provider and the results will be automatically uploaded into the app by the lab.

          EMIRATES: Airline to reinstate flights to Thailand's Phuket from 2 July 2021

          The Dubai-based airline has announced that it will resume four weekly services to Thailand's resort island of Phuket from 2 July, to coincide with the re-opening of the popular destination to international tourists; in addition, those who are vaccinated against COVID-19 will enjoy even fewer restrictions, with no quarantine applicable on arrival. The Dubai-Phuket route will be operated with a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in a three-class configuration, offering premium services in first and business class as well as economy class.

          EMIRATES: Airline to increase Italy flight connections from 1 July 2021

          The Dubai-based airline has said that it will resume flights to Venice from 1 July, initially offering three weekly services on the route. Emirates will also increase services to Milan from eight to ten weekly flights in July. This will comprise of a daily service on the Dubai-Milan-New York JFK route, and a three-weekly return flights between Dubai and Milan. Together with five weekly flights to Rome and three weekly flights to Bologna, this will take the total services to Italy to 21 weekly flights to four cities in July.

          OMAN AIR: Airline to launch flights to Georgia's Tbilisi from 16 June 2021

          The middle-eastern airline has announced the upcoming launch of a seasonal service between Muscat and Tbilisi, Georgia; Oman Air will offer two weekly direct flights, on Wednesdays and Sundays, operated with a Boeing 737 aircraft. The flights are currently due to operate until mid-September, subject to government approvals.

          AMERICAN AIRLINES: Airline to offer additional COVID-19 testing options to passengers

          The U.S. airline has said that it is expanding its pre-flight COVID-19 testing program with new self-administered and more in-person testing options; customers can now order an Abbott BinaxNOW home test through telehealth provider eMed. These 15-minute, self-administered tests are supervised virtually by an eMed certified guide 72 hours before a customer’s return to the U.S.

          ISRAEL: U.S. airlines resume flights to country's capital of Tel Aviv following cease-fire

          U.S. carriers United Airlines, Delta Air Lines and American Airlines have resumed flights to Tel Aviv, after Israel and Hamas agreed to a cease-fire in unrest that had included rockets fired in the vicinity of Ben Gurion International Airport. Delta Air Lines operated its first flight from New York to Tel Aviv since early last week on the evening of 21 May; United Airlines also resumed service on 21 May, and American Airlines plans to restart flights from New York to Tel Aviv on 24 May.

          JETBLUE: U.S. airline to launch flights from New York to London from Summer 2021

          The low-cost U.S. airline has said that it will enter the transatlantic market later this year, offering flights between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and both London Gatwick and London Heathrow airports in the UK. Flights to London Heathrow will start on 11 August, followed by those to London Gatwick on 29 September. Meanwhile, a London service from Boston is expected to start in the Summer of 2022.

          AMERICAN AIRLINES: Airline expands 'Verifly' app to incorporate COVID-19 vaccination documentation

          The U.S. airline has announced the expansion of the capabilities of its 'Verifly' health pass app to accept COVID-19 vaccine documentation; passengers headed to the Bahamas, El Salvador and Guatemala can now upload a photo of both sides of their vaccination card into the app. The airline will then verify the documentation remotely, streamlining check-in and processing at the airport. Each of those countries now allow fully vaccinated visitors from the U.S. to enter without testing, and further destinations are expected to soon be added by the airline.

          VIRGIN ATLANTIC: Airline extends South Africa flight suspension until June 2021

          The airline has confirmed a further extension of its suspension of flights to South Africa; under the updated announcement, flights between London and Cape Town are suspended until at least 5 June, and flights between London and Johannesburg are suspended until at least 2 June.           LA COMPAGNIE: Airline to resume U.S. flight operations in June 2021

          The small, all business class airline has said that it plans to resume flights between Paris and New York's Newark Liberty International Airport from early June; the resumption of a seasonal summer route from Nice to Newark is also then expected to follow in early July.           SOUTH AFRICAN AIRWAYS: Airline plans to resume flight operations in July or August 2021

          The airline has said that it aims to resume flights in July or August, but the restart date will depend on how the COVID-19 pandemic progresses and whether the airline can resolve a pilot dispute; state-owned South African Airways (SAA), which was put into administration in December 2019, has not flown commercially since September, when its administrators further postponed all operations pending funding for a restructuring.
