          QATAR AIRWAYS: Airline to launch flights to Côte d’Ivoire from 16 June 2021

          The middle-eastern airline has announced that it will operate three weekly flights to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire via Accra from 16 June; the route becomes the fourth new destination in Africa announced by Qatar Airways since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Abidjan service will be operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft featuring 22 seats in business class and 232 in economy.

          EMIRATES: Airline introduces COVID-19 digital health verification for UAE passengers

          The Dubai-based airline and the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) have said that they have started to implement full digital verification of COVID-19 medical records connected to testing and vaccination for travellers based in the UAE; the new streamlined verification procedures will enable secure and faster processing times for customers departing from Dubai International Airport.

          VUELING: Airline to offer flights from Barcelona to Newcastle, UK from July 2021

          The Spanish low-cost airline has said that it's set to offer twice-weekly flights between the UK's Newcastle International Airport and Barcelona this summer; the services will operate to and from Barcelona-El Prat Airport on Wednesdays and Sundays between July and October.

          BRITISH AIRWAYS: Airline to add four eastern-Europe destinations for summer 2021

          The airline has announced four new short-haul routes to Wroclaw and Gdansk in Poland, Riga in Latvia and Cluj-Napoca in Romania; all are due to start from the beginning of July and operate throughout the summer season. All flights will be served from London Heathrow Airport, with those to Wroclaw operating twice per week, and those to Gdansk, Riga and Cluj-Napoca operating three times per week.

          BRUSSELS AIRLINES: Airline to resume flights to 43 destinations in Europe, Africa and the U.S.

          The national carrier of Belgium has said that it will start of resume flight services to 43 destinations throughout the spring and summer, including its first flights across the North Atlantic in more than a year; once added, the airline will serve a total of 79 destinations.

          UNITED AIRLINES: Airline to add over 480 domestic U.S. flights in June 2021

          The U.S. airline has announced that it will add more than 480 daily flights to its domestic schedule in June, bringing its total number of daily domestic departures to more than 3,100. The increase will put the Chicago-based carrier at 67% of its June 2019 domestic schedule and 60% of its total June 2019 flying. Among the new routes the airline will introduce in June are Hawaii services from Chicago O'Hare to Kona, and from Newark to Maui.

          EMIRATES: Airline to resume Mexico City connections in July 2021

          The Dubai-based airline has announced that it will resume four weekly services to Mexico City via Barcelona from 2 July; the route will be operated with a two-class Emirates Boeing 777-200LR aircraft which offers 38 business class seats in a two-two-two configuration and 264 seats in economy. Emirates flight EK255 will depart Dubai at 03.25, arriving in Barcelona at 08.35, before departing again at 10.50 and arriving into Mexico City at 16.05 the same day (all local times).

          EMIRATES: Airline extends suspension of passenger services to South Africa until 30 May 2021

          The Dubai-based airline has confirmed that the suspension of inbound flights from South Africa (Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town) to Dubai has been further extended up to & including 30 May; up until this date only daily passenger services outbound from Dubai to Johannesburg will continue.

          ETIHAD: Airline's passengers to trial IATA Travel Pass app until 31 May 2021

          The airline has announced that its passengers due to travel before 31 May will be among the first to trial the IATA Travel Pass app to manage their travel health credentials. The new technology will be tried on routes from the airline's hub in Abu Dhabi to Chicago, New York, Washington and Toronto; the app will enable Etihad’s passengers to create a ‘digital passport’ to receive COVID-19 test results and verify they are eligible to undertake their journey.

          QATAR AIRWAYS: Airline introduces ultraviolet (UV) cabin hygiene system

          The middle-eastern carrier has introduced the second version of its Honeywell ultraviolet (UV) cabin system, further advancing its hygiene measures on board in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The system now features extended UV wings that treat both narrow and wide areas on board, reducing the overall disinfection time. This version also includes a hand wand that disinfects areas like the cockpit and other smaller spaces and is non-motorised leading to less battery consumption.

          UNITED AIRLINES: Airline adds flights to Croatia, Greece and Ireland for Summer 2021

          The U.S. airline has announced that it will add flight services to Croatia, Greece and Iceland during Summer 2021, as United focusses its upcoming transatlantic schedules on countries which are easing COVID-19 travel restrictions. The airline will fly between Newark and Dubrovnik, Croatia, three-times weekly from 8 July through to 3 October; it will expand its Greece service with daily flights from Washington Dulles to Athens running between 1 July and 3 October; finally, United will fly daily between Chicago and Reykjavik from 1 July through to 3 October, competing on the route with Icelandair.

          EMIRATES: Airline launches IATA Travel Pass trials

          The Dubai-based airline has become the latest carrier to launch trials of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Travel Pass. The mobile app is designed to help passengers easily and securely manage their travel in line with any government requirements for COVID-19 testing or vaccine information. In the future, travellers will also be able to share vaccination certificates with authorities and airlines to facilitate travel.

          WIZZ AIR: Low-cost airline to add new flights from London to Antalya and Rzeszow in 2021

          The Abu Dhabi-based low-cost airline has announced that it will soon launch two new summer flight routes from London Luton Airport to Antalya in Turkey and Rzeszow in Poland. The services are due to begin from 22 June and 22 September respectively; with the addition of these new destinations, the airline will now operate a total of 74 routes from its base at London Luton Airport.

          FRANCE: Country to quarantine South African arrivals starting from 24 April 2021

          French authorities will restrict who can travel to France from Brazil, Argentina, Chile and South Africa, and will impose a 10-day quarantine on those who do. Entry from the four listed countries will be limited to French citizens and their families, citizens of other EU countries, and foreigners with permanent homes in France. Travellers must have tested negative for the virus before take-off, and will be given antigenic tests on arrival. The above restrictions will come into effect on 24 April. Currently, travellers from France’s low risk list of countries are not restricted and are subject to only a seven-day quarantine period according to France’s ministry of foreign affairs.

          AIRBALTIC: Airline to launch flights to Tenerife from September 2021

          FRONTIER AIRLINES: Low-cost U.S. airline to launch new flights to Latin America and the Caribbean

          The low-cost U.S. airline has announced seven new flight routes to Latin America and the Caribbean to be launched in Summer 2021. From Miami the carrier will serve St. Maarten, Nassau and San Jose, Costa Rica. From Orlando, Frontier will fly to St Maarten and San Jose. From San Juan, the airline will serve St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. And from Dallas-Fort Worth, Frontier will be flying to Cancun. Launch dates for the routes range from 10 June through to 10 July, and frequencies range from weekly to four times per week.

          FLYBE: Collapsed UK regional airline to return to flying in Summer 2021

          UK regional airline Flybe, who previously collapsed during the COVID-19 pandemic, is preparing to return to the skies in the Summer of 2021 after the sale of assets to a new company previously known as Thyme Opco - who will now be renamed as 'Flybe Limited'. The airline previously had a hub based at Exeter Airport and also operated flights from Cornwall Airport Newquay.

          AIR FRANCE: Airline plans to launch flights to Denver from 2 July 2021

          The airline has announced that it is planning to make Denver its newest U.S. gateway destination, with a three times per week service planned from 2 July; however, this is subject to the status of travel restrictions. If successful, the flight route would operate through to 29 October. In total, Air France hopes to serve 12 U.S. destinations this summer pending the easing of travel restrictions between the U.S. and France. The other 11 cities are Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Houston Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New York, San Francisco and Washington.

          BRITISH AIRWAYS: Airline launches new flight routes from London City Airport

          The airline's regional British subsidiary, BA CityFlyer, has announced the launch of two new routes from London City Airport to Jersey and Gibraltar from 25 June; two flights per week will operate on Mondays and Fridays - offering important air links for business travellers, holiday makers and those visiting friends and relatives as COVID-19 regulations ease, as well as for cargo.

          EMIRATES: Airline among those to suspend flights to Bangladesh from 14-20 April 2021

          The Dubai-based airline has announced that, in line with Bangladesh government directives, passenger flights to and from Bangladesh are to be suspended with effect from 14 April 2021 until 20 April 2021; customers travelling to and from Dhaka will not be accepted for travel. The last flight Emirates will operate before the temporary suspension of services is EK585 that is scheduled to depart from Dhaka at 01.40 (local time) on 14 April.
