Emirates : grows Africa presence with Airlink deal

Emirates and Airlink have announced the expansion of their existing partnership into a unilateral codeshare agreement. The deal is designed to give travellers to and from South Africa convenient access to more than 40 domestic and regional destinations across 12 African countries. The extended codeshare provides connectivity to Emirates’ customers not offered by any other carrier in Africa, and augments the long-standing partnership that Emirates has with South African Airways.

Middle East airlines : welcome amber list decision

Two leading Middle Eastern airlines have welcomed a decision to add the United Arab Emirates and Qatar to the amber list for travellers to England. The changes will come into effect on Sunday. Qatar Airways said it was seeing bookings soar since the announcement last night. Qatar Airways Group chief executive, Akbar Al Baker, said: “We are very proud to be playing our part in the reopening of our country to visitors in the safest way possible and supporting the next step in the development of Qatar’s tourism industry.

Iraqi Airways : launches new flights from Baghdad to Abu Dhabi International Airport

Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) has welcomed two new weekly flights between Abu Dhabi and Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. The inaugural flight, operated by Iraqi Airways using Boeing 737-800 aircraft, landed at Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) on Saturday, August 7 at 17:00 Local Time (LT). Iraqi Airways will start by operating one flight per week and will then increase its number flights to two per week. Flights will be operating on both Saturdays and Tuesdays, upon the recovery of the travel demand.

Emirates : now offers up to 64kg free baggage for Africa travellers

Emirates airline on Thursday said customers flying to and from any destination in Africa can check-in up to 64kg of free baggage. Effective August 9, customers travelling in First and Business class on any Africa route can check in up to 64kg of free baggage or two pieces of 32kg each, regardless of where in the Emirates global network they are headed to or travelling from. Customers flying in Economy class on Saver, Flex and Flex Plus fares, can enjoy up to 46kg of free check-in baggage allowance or two pieces of 23kg each, while those on Special fares will have one free check-in bag of up to 23kg.

British Airways : boosts US connections as restrictions loosen

British Airways is adding thousands of extra seats on key routes to the UK from the United States and European Union. The move follows a “huge increase” in interest in travel to London following a government decision that quarantine restrictions would be lifted for fully-vaccinated US and EU customers when travelling to the UK. Within a couple of hours British Airways saw bookings from the US surging by 95 per cent, mainly from cities such as New York and Los Angeles, while European cities such as Berlin, Geneva and Hamburg were also popular.

Frontier Airlines : launches 15 new low-cost routes

Frontier Airlines has confirmed it will offer 15 new non-stop routes.The airline is expanding significantly in Miami with nine new routes, including its first-ever service to Aruba, along with flights to the Turks & Caicos. There are also new domestic routes to Portland, Rochester, St. Louis and Memphis. The low-cost carrier will also fly from Newark Liberty International Airport to the Bahamas, Turks & Caicos and Jamaica, while from Philadelphia International Airport there is a new connection to the Bahamas.

Oman Air : to return to Jeddah next week

Oman Air will resume flights to Jeddah on August 11th. The twice-weekly flights will operate on Wednesday and Saturday as WY 1675 from Muscat (MCT) and WY 1676 from Jeddah (JED). Flights from Muscat will depart at 15:25 and arrive in Jeddah at 17:40. Flights from Jeddah will depart at 19:40 and arrive in Muscat at 23:45.

SOUTH AFRICA: South Africa moves to adjusted alert level three

South Africa will move to adjusted alert level three with immediate effect. All COVID-19 health and safety protocols must be followed, including observance of guidelines for social distancing, sanitation, hygiene and use of appropriate personal protective equipment, like cloth face masks. The following measures will be implemented - A curfew will be in place between 10h00 pm and 04h00 am. Should your travel to/from an airport fall outside of curfew hours, you will need to produce your ticket or travel itinerary to show your reason for travel. Inter-provincial travel will resume. All gatherings are permitted however only a minimum of 50 people indoors and 100 people outdoors will be allowed. Smaller venues are only permitted to operate at 50% capacity. Non-essential establishments such as restaurants, taverns, bars and fitness centers may open however will need to close by 21h00 pm in light of curfew. The sale of alcohol at retail outlets for off-site consumption is only permitted Monday to Thursday, between 10h00 am and 18h00 pm. The sale of alcohol for on-site consumption is permitted as per licensing conditions and up to 20h00pm. Schools will re-open on 26 July 2021 according to strict health protocols.
