DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Dominican Republic entry requirements and travel restrictions

The Dominican Republic is fully open for tourism under its regular visa requirements. There are currently no restricted countries due to the pandemic. While visitors will face restrictions while on the island, entry requirements are relatively easy. There are currently no mandatory testing or quarantine requirements on arrival. Authorities, however, may randomly administer a quick Covid-19 breath test on selected travellers. All passengers must fill out an online E-ticket form before arriving.

QATAR AIRWAYS: Airline to boost Seychelles flights as the islands re-open

The middle-eastern airline has announced that it is set to boost seat capacity on services to the Seychelles this summer, as the destination continues to gradually re-open to international visitors; the Seychelles will be permitting visitors with only need to present a negative COVID-19 PCR test result obtained a maximum of 72-hours prior to departure. There will be no quarantine requirement or restriction on movement on those arriving with Qatar Airways via Doha.

EMIRATES: Airline published update on flights to South Africa until 20 March 2021

The Dubai-based airline has published an update stating that Emirates’ flights from South Africa will remain suspended until 20 March, in line with government directives that restrict the entry of travellers originating from South Africa, into the UAE. Daily passenger flights to Johannesburg will resume from 11 March and will operate as flight number EK763, however outbound passenger services on flight number EK764 remain suspended.

EL AL: Israeli airline launches COVID-19 testing pilot programme at check-in

The Israeli airline today, 8 March, launched a pilot programme at its Tel Aviv airport check-in counters to test unvaccinated passengers for COVID-19, before allowing them to board a non-stop flight to New York. Further testing is due to be carried out by the airline in New York within the next week, before a decision is made on whether to expand the initiative to other flight routes.

EMIRATES: Airline offers passengers the chance to purchase adjoining seats

The Dubai-based airline has announced that it will now offer passengers the chance to purchase additional, empty seats when travelling in the economy cabin. Up to three adjoining seats on a flight will be offered to all economy class passengers holding a confirmed booking; passengers will not be able to pre-book empty seats, however, as these are subject to availability. Empty seats will only be offered for purchase at the airport check-in counter prior to flight departure, and costs range from $55-165 USD per empty seat, plus applicable taxes depending on the flight route.

QANTAS: Airline to resume regular international passenger flights from 31 October 2021

EMIRATES: Airline to resume flights to New York's Newark in June 2021

The Dubai-based airline has announced that it will resume daily flights to New York's Newark Liberty International Airport, via Athens, from 1 June. UNITED STATES: U.S. airlines to collect contact tracing information for all international arrivals

It has been announced that major U.S. airlines are set to assist public health officials by asking for the personal information of passengers arriving in the country, in a bid to speed up potential contact tracing needs. The information that the airlines will be asking of its US-bound international passengers is as follows: legal name, two phone numbers, email address and the address of where travellers will be staying in the US - or address of permanent residence in the US. Submitting the information is voluntary, with passengers not obligated to pass on such information when asked to do so.

UNITED STATES: COVID-19 testing for Hawaii-bound passengers launched at San Jose Airport

U.S. low-cost airline Southwest Airlines has announced a partnership with COVID-19 testing provider CityHealth Urgent Care, to bring pre-flight testing to California's San Jose International Airport for passengers bound for the state of Hawaii; testing will be available for as little as $20 (USD) via the airline, who are one of three carriers now providing this service from the airport.

UNITED STATES: Country's government introduces fines for passengers refusing to wear face masks

The United States Transport Security Administration (TSA) has announced that passengers in the U.S. can now be fined for refusing to wear face masks during transit to limit the transmission of COVID-19; passengers will be fine between $250 and $1500 (USD) if in breach of these new measures on aircraft and other forms of public transportation such as trains and buses. Exempted from the requirement are children under two years old and people with a disability or medical exemption. The mask mandate is effective until at least 11 May.

RWANDAIR: Airline cancels flights to South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia cancelled until further notice

EMIRATES: Airline to resume services from the UK from 2 February 2021
