          OMAN: Country's government extends land border closure until 1 February 2021

          The country's government has confirmed that it will extend the closure of its land borders for a further week until at least 1 February to curb the spread of COVID-19. The land borders were originally closed last week in response to concerns over new variants of the virus.

          DENMARK: Additional restrictions for residents from South Africa, UK and UAE

          All non-residents entering Denmark must show a worthy cause for travel and proof of a negative COVID-19 test (PCR or antigen test) taken no more than 24 hours before boarding the aircraft. Danish nationals and residents must also present a negative COVID-19 test. Additional entry restrictions apply to residents from the UK and South Africa. Direct flights from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Denmark are banned from 22 to 26 January 2021. Also, COVID-19 tests taken in the UAE between these dates won't be accepted. If you're travelling to Denmark from the UAE on a continuous journey (transferring at one or more airports), you'll have to take a test in another country before boarding the final flight to Denmark.

          QATAR AIRWAYS: Airline announces resumption of U.S. flights to Atlanta from 1 June 2021

          The middle-eastern airline has announced that from 1 June it will resume flights to Atlanta, which will be it's twelfth U.S. destination, with four weekly flights. Qatar Airways has also said that it will significantly increase flight frequencies, adding an additional total 13 weekly flights to its U.S. destinations, this operating a total of 83 weekly flights.

          SINGAPORE AIRLINES: Airline announced the launch of COVID-19 testing trials

          The airline has announced that all passengers flying outbound from Singapore, and inbound to Singapore from Indonesia, will soon be able to book pre-departure COVID-19 PCR and serology tests as part of a new trial service; the scheme will be operated in partnership with the medical services provider Collinson. Subject to success, the programme is expected to be expanded to include more cities in the Singapore Airlines and SilkAir network, and is the first time that the airline has offered pre-departure testing services with a global partner to its passengers.

          UNITED ARAB EMIRATES: Dubai suspends entry to passengers from South Africa

          The government of the UAE emirate of Dubai have announced that entry to passengers who have travelled from or through South Africa in the past ten days will now be suspended, after it introduced a raft of new restrictions to combat the spread of COVID-19. Travellers from South Africa holding valid Dubai residence visas will also need government approval before being allowed to depart. Returning residents, who have received approval from the GDRFA or Federal Authority, must also produce two negative COVID-19 PCR test results. These tests must be completed within 96 hours of departure and then upon arrival in Dubai. Rapid antigen test certificates will not be accepted. South Africans will still be allowed to transit through Dubai International Airport on route to their final destinations to other countries which still allow for entry. South Africans in transit will still need to produce a negative Covid-19 test and will be confined to the airport precinct.

          VISTARA: Indian airline starts daily flights between New Delhi and the UAE emirate of Sharjah

          Indian airline Vistara has started daily flights between New Delhi and the emirate of Sharjah, under a bilateral travel bubble arrangement between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Sharjah is Vistara’s second destination in the UAE, complementing its weekly flights between Delhi and Dubai. Starting from 24 January, the airline will also fly daily between Mumbai and Sharjah.

          ISRAEL: Country's government extends COVID-19 'lockdown' and increases entry requirements

          The country's government has announced that a nationwide COVID-19 'lockdown' has been extended by at least a further ten days until 31 January, following increases in new infection rates within Israel. In addition, ministers also approved a fine of NIS 2,500 for anyone who arrives in the country without a recent, negative COVID-19 test result. Under the new policy, the test must be conducted a maximum of 72 hours prior to landing in Israel.

          The middle-eastern airline has announced that it will resume flights from it's hub in Abu Dhabi to Doha in Qatar, starting from 15 February; the service will operate daily using an Airbus A320 and a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

          LEBANON: Country's government extends COVID-19 restrictions until 8 February 2021

          The country's government announced today, 21 January, that it will extend a 24-hour lockdown imposed earlier this month by two weeks, to combat a continued rise in COVID-19 infections. The tight restrictions on movement across the country, which had been due to run until 25 January, will stay in place until at least 8 February.

          The airline has launched a bid to vaccinate all of its UAE-based workforce against COVID-19, in a move that hopes to increase passenger confidence in flying with Emirates. The inoculation drive has already started, with priority being placed on its frontline aviation workforce, including cabin crew, flight deck and other operationally focused roles.

          ETIHAD: Airline partners with IATA on COVID-19 'Travel Pass'

          The airline has partnered with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in order to launch a 'Travel Pass' for passengers; the mobile app is designed to help passengers easily and securely manage their travel in line with government requirements for COVID-19 tests or vaccines. The mobile app will initially be offered to Etihad’s passengers on selected flights from Abu Dhabi in the first quarter of 2021 - if successful, it will be extended to other destinations on the airline's network.

          SINGAPORE AIRLINES: Airline plans to vaccinate crew against COVID-19

          The airline has launched a bid to vaccinate all of its crew against COVID-19, in a move that hopes to increase passenger confidence in flying with Singapore Airlines. Mirroring a similar scheme at Dubai-based airline Emirates, Singapore Airlines hope to offer the vaccine to pilots, gate agents, flight attendants and anyone whose job requires contact with the public.

          NETHERLANDS: Country imposes flight suspensions on a number of destinations from 23 January 2021

          The country's government has announced that from 23 January they will place a ban on passenger flights from the UK, South Africa and a number of South American countries. In addition, if passengers are travelling from areas with a high incidence of COVID-19, regardless of their nationality, they must present two negative COVID-19 test results; the first is a negative PCR test result obtained a maximum of 72 hours prior to departure, and the second is a negative rapid test result obtained no more than four hours prior to boarding. Locally, a restrictive COVID-19 'lockdown’ remains in place in the country until at least 9 February, included a nighttime curfew.

          WIZZ AIR: Airline to add flights from Abu Dhabi to Tel Aviv from February 2021

          The Abu Dhabi-based airline has announced that from 12 February it will begin to offer flights to Tel Aviv, Israel. The airline recently confirmed Athens as its inaugural destination, with flights from Abu Dhabi International Airport commencing from 15 January. This will also be followed by flights to Thessaloniki, starting on 4 February.

          EMIRATES: Airline suspends flights to Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne until further notice

          The Dubai-based airline has announced that it will be suspending all flights to and from the Australian cities of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane until further notice due to unspecified operational reasons. Each route will operate its final outbound and inbound flight from Dubai between 16-20 January, and then will remain suspended until further notice. The airline will, however, continue to operate a twice-weekly service to the Australian city of Perth.

          NORWEGIAN: Airline suspend long-haul flight operations

          The low-cost airline has announced an updated flight schedule plan for 2021 which will focus on a dedicated short-haul route network and suspend long-haul flight operations, as it plans a return from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic upon the industry. Norwegian has said that it will focus on its core Nordics business, operating a European short haul network with narrow body aircraft.

          KLM: Airline cancels South Africa flights from 15 January to 17 January 2021

          The Dutch airline has announced that due to regulations released by the country's government, it must cancel scheduled flights from South Africa to Amsterdam between the evening of Friday 15 January and the evening of Sunday 17 January. However, flights KL 592 from Johannesburg and KL 598 from Cape Town departing tonight, 14 January, will operate as planned.

          The country's government has announced that it is tightening its travel restrictions for visitors entering from South Africa, the UK and Ireland from 15 January 2021; while essential travel is still permitted, arriving passengers will need to submit two negative COVID-19 test results prior to departure.

          EMIRATES: Airline suspends flights to South Africa from 16 January 2021

          The airline has announced that flights to and from South Africa will temporarily be suspended from 16 January to 28 January 2021 due to operational reasons. The last flights to the three South African gateways will be on 14 January. Customers holding tickets with final destinations in South Africa from 16 January to 28 January will not be accepted for travel at their point of origin. Affected customers should contact their travel agent or Emirates contact centre for rebooking options.
