AMERICAN AIRLINES: Airline to trial new COVID-19 passenger mobile app

The airline has announced plans to begin rolling out ‘Verifly’ this month, a new mobile app to help passengers easily understand COVID-19 testing and documentation requirements. It’ll be available from 18 November on selected flights, and will give passengers a ‘pass’ or ‘fail’ status pre-travel depending on the amount of supporting information and documentation that has been provided.

CUBA: Country announces updated COVID-19 entry requirements for tourists

The country's government has announced that Cuba has re-opened its borders to international tourism; travellers from all countries are now permitted to visit the country under regular visa requirements. There are no online forms to fill out before travelling, however all travellers must complete a health declaration before arrival, and will be tested for COVID-19 at the airport. The traveller will then quarantine at their hotel for a maximum of 24 hours while awaiting test results. If the test is negative, the traveller can continue to enjoy their trip freely. There is no fee for the COVID-19 tests. All incoming travellers should have travel insurance that covers COVID-19 for the duration of their trip. Travellers visiting Varadero are required to have COVID-19 insurance and must bring proof of their hotel reservation.

UNITED KINGDOM: UK arrivals to Spain to require COVID-19 pre-testing from 23 November 2020

QANTAS: Airline to resume flights between Australian states of Victoria and Tasmania

The airline has announced that it will resume flights on three domestic Australian routes from 27 November, with 14 weekly return services between Melbourne and Launceston, 13 between Melbourne and Hobart and 12 between Melbourne and Devonport. With the increase in flying, Qantas will also re-open its Club Lounge in Hobart and regional lounges in Devonport and Launceston from 2 December.

AUSTRIA: Country implements second COVID-19 lockdown from 17 November 2020

The government of Austria has announced that a second national COVID-19 lockdown will be in place for at least two and a half weeks. from 17 November. During this time, Austrian citizens and residents are urged not to meet anyone from outside their household; in addition, schools are to close and students will learn from home when the new measures come into force. The new lockdown measures, which will see all non-essential shops and services close, including hairdressers, will remain in place until 6 December. Amid rising numbers, Vienna had already imposed a partial lockdown, including a curfew from 20h00 to 06h00, at the start of November.

UNITED KINGDOM: Country's government exempts United Arab Emirates travellers from 14-day arrival quarantine

The UK government has added passengers from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to its list of countries exempt from a 14-day arrival quarantine requirement in place to stop the spread of COVID-19. It means that, from 04.00 (GMT) today, 14 November, arrivals from the UAE will no longer have to quarantine for two weeks on arrival in the UK. Alongside the UAE, the UK also added the quarantine exemption for those arriving from Iceland, Chile, Laos, Cambodia, the Turks and Caicos Islands, Bahrain and Qatar.

UNITED KINGDOM: Arrivals to Malta from some UK airports now require COVID-19 pre-testing

QATAR AIRWAYS: Airline to add additional destinations to its global network

Qatar Airways has announced that it will both resume flights and increase services to several destinations in the coming weeks. The Middle Eastern airline will fly to Algiers twice a week from 13 November, with nine flights per week to Chicago to follow from 15 November. From 14 November, a twice-weekly service to Miami and 14 flights per week to New York will also resume. Next month, Kiev will welcome three flights a week from 18 December, two flights per week will depart for Phuket from 4 December, and three flights per week for Seychelles and Warsaw from 15 December and 16 December, respectively.

GREECE: Country now requires negative COVID-19 PCR test results from all arrivals

DENMARK: Country places northern regions in to COVID-19 lockdown

The country's government has placed more than a quarter of a million of the population into a COVID-19 lockdown as of 6 November, in a northern region of the country where a mutated variation of COVID-19 has infected a farmed population of minks. In seven northern Denmark municipalities with some 280,000 residents, sport and cultural activities have been suspended, public transportation has been stopped and regional borders have been closed. LUFTHANSA: Airline to begin rapid COVID-19 testing trials within Germany

The airline are due to start trial runs of rapid COVID-19 testing on flights between the German cities of Munich and Hamburg from 12 November. The tests will be free of charge and access to the boarding gate will be granted electronically within 30-60 minutes once a negative test is returned; if passengers do not wish to be tested, they may be transferred to separate flights that are not confirmed as 100% COVID-free.

UNITED STATES: Country's government updates COVID-19 test requirements for Washington DC from 9 November 2020

The country's government has said that most out-of-state visitors from 'high-risk' locations must now present a negative COVID-19 test result prior to arriving in Washington DC; however, they will no longer be required to self-isolate for 14 days. Visitors staying longer than three days will have to take a second test three to five days after their arrival, according to the order. The new travel advisory goes into effect on 9 November.
