ISRAEL: Country's government eases some local COVID-19 restrictions

The country's government has announced an easing of some local COVID-19 restrictions, following evidence that a vaccine program in the country is proving effective; a number of facilities and services are now able to re-open,including gyms, hotels and synagogues. However, they require a ‘green passport’, a certificate that can only be obtained once you have been vaccinated. In addition, crowds are now allowed back at concerts, and sporting events have reopened at 75% capacity - however they have a cap of no more than 300 people inside and 500 outside. Despite this easing of local restrictions, Israel's main airport in Tel Aviv will remain closed for a further two weeks.

KUWAIT: Country's government may lift suspension on flights from 35 countries

The country's civil aviation authority has announced that it has submitted a proposal to Kuwait's government for the lifting of a flight suspension on services travelling directly from a list of 35 countries deemed 'high-risk' for COVID-19. The proposal would however stipulate that all passengers would be required to undergo a mandatory 14-day hotel quarantine and two COVID-19 PCR tests at their own expense; the flight suspension was first announced on 1 August and incuded 31 countries, with more later added.

SOUTH AFRICA: Country's government re-opens 20 land border crossings

The country's government has announced that, while South Africa will remain at COVID-19 adjusted alert level 'three' until further notice, it will now re-open 20 land border crossing points fully. The crossing points, which were already partially operationally, will now become fully operational; however, an additional 33 land border crossing points will remain closed. Meanwhile, international air travel remains limited to OR Tambo International Airport, King Shaka International Airport and Cape Town International Airport. All international travellers arriving at these airports must produce a negative COVID-19 PCR test result obtained a maximum of 72 hours prior to departure. Passengers will also be subjected to screening on arrival and the completion of a traveller health questionnaire.

MAURITIUS: Country's government updates entry restrictions for passengers from South Africa, UK, Japan and Brazil

The country's government has published updated entry restrictions for international arrivals from some countries, in a further bid to limit the spread of new variants of COVID-19; if passengers have been in or transited through the UK, South Africa , Japan or Brazil within the previous 15 days they won't be permitted to enter Mauritius until at least 28 February. Arrivals must also undergo COVID-19 (PCR) testing no more than seven days prior to departure for Mauritius, in addition to testing on arrival, and and on days seven and 14 of a mandatory hotel quarantine period. Locally, social distancing measures and face masks are mandated in public, including in workplaces and on public transport.

SOUTH AFRICA: Country's land borders may re-open with strict new protocols from 15 February 2021

The country's government has announced that it aims to re-open its land borders with neighbouring countries from as early as 15 February, albeit with strict protocols in place; this includes the deployment of additional healthcare workers, ticketing systems for COVID-19 testing and queue limits. The queue between the Weighbridge and Beitbridge border post, for example, will be limited to just 700 metres. Current travel regulations require all persons entering South Africa from abroad – whether via land or air – to present a negative COVID-19 test result.

RWANDAIR: Airline cancels flights to South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia cancelled until further notice

Rwanda's national airline has announced the suspension of its flights to the cities of Johannesburg, Cape Town, Lusaka and Harare until further notice, effective as of 8 February. The action has been taken in response t concerns over the spread of COVID-19 variants, and scheduled flights will reportedly resume as soon as there is more clarity on the situation going forwards.

ISRAEL: Country's government extends airport and land border closures until 21 February 2021

The country's government has announced the extended closure of Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport to all inbound and outbound passenger flights through to 21 February, in an effort to combat the spread of new COVID-19 variants; all land border crossings will also remain closed through to 21 February. During this period, officials will only allow travel to and from Israel in exceptional circumstances subject to approval; the closures apply to both foreign nationals and Israeli nationals. Israeli authorities also announced on 4 February that all arriving international travelers will be subject to a mandatory 14-day quarantine at government-designated facilities.

VIRGIN ATLANTIC: Airline suspends flights to South Africa until 28 February 2021

The airline has announced that due to national COVID-19 'lockdown' measures in the UK, as well as travel restrictions in many of the destinations in which they operate, they have been forced to make a number of schedule changes to their flight routes. EMIRATES: Airline to resume services from the UK from 2 February 2021

The Dubai-based airline has announced that it will re-instate outbound passengers flights from the UK from tomorrow, 2 February. Initially this will include a daily flight from London Heathrow and four weekly from Manchester; services from Birmingham and Glasgow will continue to be cargo-only. WIZZ AIR: Low-cost airline to launch new Sarajevo flights in May 2021

SPAIN: Country's government introduces COVID-19 travel restrictions for arrivals from South Africa & Brazil

The country's government has followed the lead of several other European countries in introducing further travel restrictions for arrivals from Brazil and South Africa, in a bid to curb the spread of new strains of COVID-19; only a limited number of passenger flights from these destinations are now permitted to enter. Passengers in transit in Spanish airports are also now not permitted to leave the airport’s transit area. The updated measures came into effect from 09.00 (local time) on 3 February and will last for at least two weeks.

SOUTH AFRICA: Country's government to ease some COVID-19 restrictions under adjusted alert level 'three'

The country's government has announced that South Africa will remain at adjusted COVID-19 alert level 'three', but with an easing of some restrictions. Among them, a nationwide curfew will now be in force only between 23.00 and 04.00 (local time), and many public areas and facilities will be re-opened. The sale and consumption of alcohol is now permitted between certain hours, and faith based gatherings are permitted subject to health protocols. Political gatherings, sports gatherings or social gatherings are however still prohibited. It remains compulsory for every person to wear a face mask in a public place.

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES: Dubai announces tightening of COVID-19 entry restrictions for international tourists

The government of the UAE emirate of Dubai has changed its entry rules for foreign citizens; on arrival, tourists must present negative results of a COVID-19 PCR test, obtained a maximum of 72 hours prior to departure. Arriving passengers, as before, must also install a special mobile application on their phone to determine their location and well-being while in-destination. Foreign citizens arriving in Dubai now also need to take a second test for COVID-19 and, until the results are known, must quarantine in a hotel or apartment. If the test is positive, then the passenger will be in self-isolation for at least ten days.
