ITALY: Country's government to impose entry restrictions on some arrivals from France

SWITZERLAND: Country adds South Africa to its 'green list' of countries

The government of Switzerland has moved South Africa onto its list of countries whose citizens do not need to quarantine for a mandatory 14 days upon arrival. Switzerland's list of countries from which arrivals are required to undergo mandatory quarantine is updated regularly based on a number of factors, including the number of active cases over the past seven days. Switzerland has declared South Africa - along with Ecuador, Faroe Islands, and Guatemala - free from this constraint.

INDIA: Visa applications for Germany now being accepted via government partner VFS

Visa applications for travel to Germany from India are now being accepted at some locations; among them, the German consulate in Bangalore is now accepting applications of 'D' category visas, and the German visa application centres in both Chennai and Hyderabad are also accepting additional 'D' and limited 'C' visa applications. As of September 2020, these applications can only be processed through Indian government partner VFS.

UNITED KINGDOM: Arrivals to England from seven Greek islands to be required to self-isolate

The UK government has announced that from 04.00 (local time) on 9 September, both arrivals and returning passengers to England from the Greek islands of Crete, Lesvos, Mykonos, Santorini, Serifos, Tinos and Zakynthos will be required to self-quarantine for 14 days. In addition, the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has also advised British nationals against all but essential travel to these destinations, based on the risk currently presented due to their levels of COVID-19. The mainland, and remaining islands within the country, remain exempt from these changes. Meanwhile, the devolved government of Scotland has placed the same restrictions on all arrivals to Scotland from anywhere in Greece since 3 September.

EUROSTAR: Rail operator to extend closure of two UK stations until at least 2022

The cross-channel rail provider has announced that Eurostar trains will not stop in the UK county of Kent until 2022, due in a drop in demand related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Services have not been stopping in the two affected stations, Ashford and Ebbsfleet, since March - however the decision to extend this closure until 2022 has come as a surprise to many, and is not a decision that the provider says has been taken lightly.
